Mind Of An American
"Mind Of An American" is one of the best Hunters & Collectors b-sides in existence. It's non-appearance on any album may be related to the fact that it also the most 'politically sensitive' song in the Hunna's back catalogue. Inspired by the Reagan Administration, this song is an ode to Republican minded Americans, showcasing a particularly memorable and enjoyable bass, drum and vocal section. Hunters and Collectors (and particularly Mark Seymour) have delved into political areas over the years, but none of them are as forthcoming as this particular piece. For more 'in your face' political Australian music, there is always Midnight Oil. The whole song is based on the mentality of the Republican American, or Mark's interpretation thereof. A great piece of writing filled with sarcasm thoroughly demolishing a popular American mindset without resorting to anything even remotely nasty. That is not to suggest that the Republican mindset is anything but perfect, of course. I highly recommend getting hold of a copy of this song in some format if you do not have it.
