On Wednesday the 27th of June 2001, "The Ballad Of The One Eyed
Man" was played live on the Panel - this may eventually find its way onto a
live album. It was a fantastic performance with Mark Seymour and Rod Davies on
guitars.
"The Ballad Of The One Eyed Man" is a ballad about being bashed
after Mark's encounter with a not so nice one eyed man in Kings Cross one night. A song that builds from a soft guitar introduction into a
one of the saddest yet beautiful songs I know. A classic.
Lyrics
The song if for catching the blood you shed
For there's no escaping the quick and the dead
The beggars of madness who fall at your feet
The blind and the damaged have taken to the street
You know you talk too much
Boy you must be losing your touch
For flirting with danger, for feeding the dread
For walking the streets where angels fear to tread
Got a little bit damaged as the lights went down
For taking a joy ride through the wrong side of town
For a ticket to nowhere they followed you home
For pieces of silver they've shaken your bones
Remember the madness, the time and the place
Remember the thunder that rained on your face
You couldn't talk your way out
Of a dust-up you could do without
For flirting with danger, for feeding the dread
For walking the streets where angels fear to tread
Got a little bit damaged as the lights went down
For taking a joy ride through the wrong side of town
You know you talk too much
Boy you must be losing your touch
For flirting with danger, for feeding the dread
For walking the streets where angels fear to tread
La la la la la...
This song is for catching the blood you shed
This song if for grieving the quick and the dead
For the blind and the damaged that follow you you home
For the one eyed man who wouldn't
leave you alone
