7 April 2010 - Jack at Spenserslive A message from Jack! Hello there, music lovers The Nightbirds have got a big, and in the scheme of things, an important show, at the fantastic Spenserslive, on Saturday May 1st. Since the CD launch last year, the band has undergone some personnel changes - Dave Evans in on the bass and Sophia Exiner on the 88's - and it is better than ever. We supported Rob Hirst's new band, The Break on the weekend (Rob, Jim and Martin from Midnight Oil and and Brian Ritchie from The Violent Femmes; and me on surf trumpet!) and it went down very well; and then we backed it up with our best Purepop shop yet. Anyway, enough with the hard sell. It would be great if you could weave your networking skills and get along to the show and bring a stack of punters with you!
If want to book tickets or direct people, go to www.spenserslive.com. Cheers, Jack

12 October 2009 - Mark Seymour Album Latest With 2007's Westgate album reaching new heights for Mark Seymour's song writing, many of us have high hopes for Mark's next studio album. The good news is that Mark is determined to be happy with the new album, as he was with Westgate. The bad news is that this is likely to take time - meaning that the next studio album is not close. In the short to medium term, Mark plans to keep on writing songs and adding them to set lists. In the mean time, Mark also appears to be considering creating an Irish album. It is early days yet, but we speculate that the contents would be a combination of covers and originals. Indications of known songs are in for Parting Glass, out for The Patriot Game, out for Lorelei and a maybe for The Eye of the Needle.
11 October 2009 - Little Bridges Mark Seymour has recently been performing a song called Little Bridges, which was written with Angie Hart. For those seeking the song, Angie's version will appear on her album Eat My Shadow, which is due to be released on the 23rd of October 2009.

14 March 2009 - Sound Relief Comments What an incredible day for music in Australia - the Sound Relief concerts at Sydney and Melbourne have already been and gone. Besides our beloved Hunters, a spectacular of great artists played today, including the Kings of Leon, Paul Kelly, Coldplay, Hoodoo Gurus, Eskimo Joe, Icehouse, Wolfmother, Split Enz and Midnight Oil. We could say that this was a great example of Australians coming together in the light of the Victorian fires and Queensland floods, yet people came from all over the world to support these concerts. There was an air of respect for the victims, hope for the survivors, and perhaps even a little of that often spoken but rarely seen phenomena called mateship. Hunters and Collectors were given the prime 8pm slot immediately following the 'special announcement', minute silence and Kylie Minogue appearance in Melbourne. Seven songs were played, including an unexpected rendition of The Slab for the fans. More than ten years after splitting, the Hunters were in fine form. Doug's drums and John's bass drove the show, Barry was clearly enjoying himself on guitar, and Michael, Jeremy and Jack were as great as ever on the horns. Mark was as intense as ever, spoke well and the mood within the band seemed good. As always, the coherence of the overall sound is a credit to Rob. This concert was too good not to see the light of day on DVD - we hope it is a comprehensive DVD.

There are two concurrent gigs planned in Sydney and Melbourne, with Hunters and Collectors playing for approximately 30 minutes at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Proceeds from these gigs will go to the Victorian fire and Queensland flood victims. Hunters and Collectors played two songs together in July 2005, but had otherwise not reformed since disbanding in March 1998. This is therefore the first gig in over ten years! The Melbourne gig features a truly incredible line-up, including Kings of Leon, Midnight Oil, Paul Kelly, Split Enz and Wolfmother. 22 December 2008 - Season's Greetings! On behalf of all of us here at True Believers, I hope that you have an entertaining, safe and rewarding Christmas and New Year. 2008 has been a big year for Hunters and Collectors, with the ultimate memoir released in the form of the Horn of Plenty box set. Impeccably detailed and stunningly presented, the artwork is a testament to the dedication and artistic skills of Rob Miles. We have also enjoyed the SBS Great Australian Albums special on Human Frailty, now available in stores on DVD. Mark Seymour's first book, Thirteen Tonne Theory, was well received, as was Mark's Scandinavian release The Closest Living Thing. Given the big 2008, 2009 is currently looking relatively quiet. If we are lucky, we may have a new Jack Howard album by the end of the year, though it may end up being in 2010. 2010 is also the likely release year for Mark Seymour's next solo album. We may also get a CD version of Mark's From Bondi to Bedlam, though we are awaiting a definite confirmation. See you in 2009! - Stuart Fenech

[* This leads to a question about a listing on the singles page on this Internet site. We attribute the 1984 Throw Your Arms Around Me single to the live album The Way To Go Out. However, the versions are different, even though both are live versions from the same era. Still, an edit of a song would still be regarded as a single from that album, as is the case with Sway and Where Do You Go? (among others). We think it is OK.]

26 September 2008 - Great Australian Albums The Great Australian Albums documentary on Human Frailty, aired on SBS television on the weekend, will soon be available on DVD. Release dates are being reported as either the 8th of October 2008 or the 22nd of October 2008. Being cynics, we are leaning towards the second release date :)
22 September 2008 - Favourite Song Mark's favourite Australian song of the last 20 years, as published by The Australian... Treaty – Yothu Yindi If ever there were a song that blazed a path of hope and commitment to a better future for this country, it would have to be Treaty by Yothu Yindi. Released in 1991 as a dancefloor anthem, it demanded that white Australia remember the promise made by Bob Hawke in 1988 that the Australian government would one day formally recognise at the core of the nation’s constitution, the sovereignty of ownership of this continent by its original inhabitants, the Australian Aborigines. And incredibly, white Australia lapped it up. Treaty roars with anger and pride. It is one of those great Australian songs that appeal to our better nature and resound for decades afterwards.

8 August 2008 - The Letter Jack Howard has been busier than ever and delivers this letter to all--- Howdy troops. It may seem like musical life has been very quiet down here in Elwood but nothing could be further from the truth. This year, I've sung bass in an opera, played at The E.J.Whitten Legends Game, played at the launch of Airway Lanes' new CD, been writing heaps of new songs with the school bands that I run (Tavish and the Wesley jazz ensembles) and I've got a new CD in the can due for release next year (tentatively titled "Lost Horizon"). The Elwood Dads' Band have also been playing all over the place. My big news is that I'm the musical director of a brand new Australian musical, "Call Girl", written by Melbourne actor/comedienne/musician Tracy Harvey. Tracy got me involved earlier this year and we've been having a ball. Go to www.callgirlbiz.com for details about the show and how you can buy tickets. I've also got a few shows coming up with The Long Lost Brothers - we're at The Rainbow Hotel in Fitzroy on Fridays Aug.29th and Oct.3rd; we're at Bar 9T4 in Richmond on Saturdays Sept. 6th and 20th; and we'll be at Chaucer's Bottleshop in Malvern on Fri.Oct.10th.....and on October 20th, I turn 50!! If you're wondering how I maintain my hunky looks, it's my moisturiser, darlings. I don't go anywhere without it. Cheers - see you on the other side.

20 February 2006 - Mark Seymour's Plans for 2006 Mark has posted his extensive plans for 2006 on his Internet site: 2006 is shaping up to be Mark Seymour’s busiest year. He is currently writing for his next studio recording under the working title of “The Year of the Dog”. Recording will start this month and he will be working with his brother Nick on bass guitar. Simultaneously there is a theatre production in rehearsal entitled “We built this City” which celebrates the history of union labour in Victoria and the 150th anniversary of the Eight Hour Day. There will be a concert and multimedia display at Scienceworks in Newport from April 26 through to May 6 in which Mark will perform songs specifically written to document trade union history. Mark will be accompanied by the “Human Tide”, a thirteen-piece band made up of workers from a broad variety of industries throughout Melbourne. One song of particular note will be “Westgate” which tells the story of one man’s ordeal who survived the collapse of the Westgate Bridge in 1972. Some of the songs in this project have been written in collaboration with Adelaide poet Geoffrey Goodfellow and at least two of them will appear on Mark’s next recording. Over the last two years Mark has ventured into soundtrack music in close association with guitarist/producer Cameron Mackenzie. Last year the Telemovie “Through My Eyes” went to air in September. It was a comprehensive re-telling of the Lindy Chamberlain story over two ninety-minute episodes and featured 118 separate pieces of music. Mark’s voice appeared in songs such as “Salem”, “Flower in the Dark” and “Kapunya.” Two new film ventures are planned for 2006. Due to the success of “Daytime and the Dark”, 2005 was Mark’s biggest year since the retirement of Hunters and Collectors. Plans are underway to release this recording in Canada around May and Mark will be touring there in the latter half of 2006. Stay tuned for tour dates towards the end of the year as well. In the mean time Mark will make occasional appearances at various clubs around Australia in an informal capacity so he can knock some of his new material into shape. A small solo acoustic residency is planned for a bar somewhere in Melbourne in the not too distant future. Look out for two new “Rants” which will hit Mark’s web site this week.
19 February 2006 - The Living End The full Hunters and Collectors horn section can be found on the new album "State of Emergency" by Australian band The Living End. Check out the tracks "Black Cat" and, particularly, "One Step Behind". The horns may even be touring with The Living End in May...

Jack Howard's Internet site (www.jack-howard.com) also now offers a lot of music for downloading. 23 September 2005 - Barry Palmer Television Show Fan Luke spotted this news in last weeks Herald-Sun: "New ABC television series 'The Hit Game' is a fascinating insight into the music industry and a must see for budding musicians. The four part series, which starts on September 27 at 8pm, follows a year in the life of independent record producer Barry Palmer, who spent many years on the road playing in Hunters and Collectors. The affable Palmer works with several young acts in the show, all of whom are determined to make the big time. A highlight comes when Palmer hooks up with the Wolfgramm Sisters, a female trio of Pacific Island heritage. After working on several demo songs with Palmer and putting on a showcase gig, the girls are being chased by record companies. The series makes for fascinating viewing."

From news.com.au: Iconic Australian band Hunters and Collectors will reunite for one night only when they are inducted into the ARIA Icons Hall of Fame next month. But former frontman Mark Seymour says the group has no intention of getting back together. "We have all moved on," Seymour said today. "This is pretty incredible really, you wouldn't get us out otherwise." Hunters and Collectors will join country music veteran Smoky Dawson and rockers The Easybeats as inductees to the inaugural ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) Icons Hall of Fame event in Melbourne on July 14. Other inductees previously announced include Split Enz, Renee Geyer and Normie Rowe. "There has been a fair bit of banter between band members about the concept of actually playing together again," Seymour said, noting the group would perform two songs, Say Goodbye and Throw Your Arms Around Me. "This is absolutely a one-off. No doubt about it." Hunters and Collectors got together in 1981, breaking up in 1998. The group's other hits include Holy Grail and When The River Runs Dry. The new ARIA event is designed to honour performers, producers and songwriters who have had an impact on Australia's music industry. It will be separate from the annual ARIA Music Awards, which have included their own Hall of Fame since they began in 1988. The ARIA Icons Hall of Fame will be broadcast live on Foxtel channel VH1 on July 17 at 9pm (AEST). The ARIAs will be held in Sydney in October.

28 March 2005 - Jack Howard on Paul Hester's Passing The news of Paul Hester's unexpected suicide had been in the mainstream news today. Paul Hester lived in a close-knit Melbourne community in the Elwood area that includes former Hunna's members Mark Seymour and Jack Howard. Kind words from Jack have been amongst those in the news today. [ABC News] Jack Howard, from Hunters and Collectors, describes Hester as
"Ringo Starrish". ... Former Hunters and Collectors band member, Jack Howard, says the two of them would catch up every few months for a coffee or a play. "The times I caught up with him, he was incredibly supportive," he said. "In the first solo recordings I embarked on myself were at his studio, he was the most encouraging of everybody at the time. "He kind of wished me well for all of that. Other times when you're going through a lot of crap, he would be a really good person to talk to." Howard says he never took rock 'n' roll stardom too seriously. "There was a time when I was having a bite to eat with him one day and he said 'I wish I could share all these things I've done with other people and wish I could give you some and my other friend here some and let everyone get in on it. I want that for my fans'," he said.
27 March 2005 - Paul Hester Dead Paul Hester, of Split Enz and Crowded House fame, took his own life in Elwood (near Melbourne) on Easter Saturday. Paul was an entertaining character, often the life of the Crowded House party. Paul was only recently playing in a band called Tarmac Adam, which included Mark Seymour's brother Nick. Our strongest sympathies to Paul's friends and family. For more information, see news.com.au or Undercover.

The "Living In Large Room and Lounges" re-release will still happen but not in the immediate future. [Thanks Paul and Liberation Records]

10 November 2004 - Collected Mark Gossip Mark has finished recording the "Through My Eyes" soundtrack, on the Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton story, which should be in stores soon. We hope to soon report more details, including Mark's exact contribution to the album. Mark has an acoustic album due for release in February next year (we estimate April). This acoustic album will have Mark, acoustic guitar and a little bit of a shaker or tambourine in parts. It will give a good flavour of the live performances we have been enjoying over the last few years. It will include acoustic renditions of "The Slab" and "Head Above Water". The unreleased "Good Old Boys Stuff" may be included, though "Lorelei" is unconfirmed. Mark is likely to return to full time high school English teaching in 2005. Mark will continue his music and performing. This change is a reflection of Mark's need to keep busy.
9 November 2004 - Collected Rod Gossip We caught up with Rod Davies before and after a recent Mark Seymour gig. Rod is working on his second studio album, "Turn The TV On", which is going to have less layering of guitars and a generally more direct feel than his first album "Beautiful Scars". Vocals will be the last component to add to the album, after he has got a feel for how the songs function live. Rod is working on the European market with his debut album, and is looking for support gigs. Rod and Mark practice less for gigs that it appears. Click here to view Rod's website.
8 November 2004 - Collected Hunters Gossip There was an attempt to reform Hunters and Collectors that had nothing to do with the band itself or anyone through this Internet site. It is unlikely to be successful, but there seems to have been a softening on the reunion possibility over the last few years. Any reunion would have to be financially viable. True Believers do not and will not press the issue as the band get hounded enough about it already.
7 November 2004 - Mark Seymour Gig Update Mark continues to trot around Australia promoting his great third solo album Embedded. Mark particularly recommends Tilley's in Canberra.
27 October 2004 - Jack Howard Gig Update Jack Howard has a great new studio album "Let's Fall In Love" out and is promoting it around Melbourne. Here are the details on the latest upcoming gigs:

Both albums have had some delay as Rod's debut album "Beautiful Scars" is to be soon released in Europe by Ulftone Music. Rod will also be touring Europe in 2005. Please go to www.roddavies.com for more information.
16 October 2004 - Call For Interest: Fan Rarities Trade Six discs. Four Hunters and Collectors. Two Mark Seymour. Every officially released rarity around that is not available in stores on CD (or on the upcoming Mutations release). Superb vinyl rips courtesy of Brendan Jones. Sound good? The plan is a primitive trade as follows. A number of people express their
interest and a list is created. Each person: You will need a CD burner. It is important that you process
and send on the discs as quickly as possible.

4 August 2004: Jack Howard CD Launch and More
Jack Howard is holding a 'pre-emptive' CD launch for his new studio album "Let's Fall In Love" on Saturday the 21st of August at 9pm. The gig is at The Cornish Arms. 163A Sydney Rd., Brunswick, Victoria 3056. Phone (03) 9380 8322. The cost is $10 at the door or $40 for dinner and show. Dan Hall is the support for the evening. You will be able to purchase the album here before it's official release date of the 11th of October. I recently had the pleasure of being in Melbourne and attending one of the weekly Jack Howard gigs at the Elwood RSL. I came way extremely impressed with the high quality musicianship of Jack and his band the Long Lost Brothers. Playing "Sail Upon Our Smile" for us travel worn Queenslanders was a particularly fine moment. Those in Melbourne not only have the best food I have ever eaten, but you have this fantastic weekly gig for free. Forget 'Elwoods best kept music secret', this may well be Australia's best kept music secret! Jack's upcoming gigs:

27 July 2004: Mark Posting On His Guestbook Name: Mark Seymour My humble apologies if I offended anybody, (and I did) for not returning to the stage for an encore. I waited backstage and listened to the crowd response and made the judgement that there was only a luke warm response. I have received a letter from an angry punter who has accused me of being unprofessional and simply 'walking off without any explanation'. As far as I can recall, I played the 14 odd songs on the setlist, thanked the crowd, said 'goodnight' and left the stage. I also thanked the crowd for'making the effort' to come mid-way through the show as well, although the use of this phrase appears to have caused offence as well. In summary, all I can say is that on virtually every occasion I play on when prompted, but I ALWAYS size up the level of response and decide beforehand if an encore is warranted, as any self respecting artist should. Encores are not a given and the last thing I want to do is overstay my welcome.
26 July 2004: Happy Birthday Mark! Happy birthday Mark, from all the True Believers!
25 July 2004: AWOL Way To Go Out CD The remastered "The Way To Go Out" CD is meant to be in stores, but it can not be found and few stores (eg. Chaos Music) seem to believe it exists. We are chasing this one up.
7 July 2004 - Mark Seymour Gig Update Hello chums. I will be away - road tripping around this great country of Australia (Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo, Dubbo, Charleville, Roma, back home to Brisbane) and stirring up locals and fellow bogans, wherever they may be - from July 7 to 25. The latest hints are that Mutations has been delayed again, but The Way To Go Out re-mastered CD should be in stores by the time I return. The latest Mark gigs are below...

25 May 2004 - Brass Monkey May 23 Gig Comments Sydney fan Linda e-mailed us some interesting details about Mark's gig last Sunday: Just wanted to let you know that I saw Mark on Sunday night at The Brass Monkey in Cronulla, and I have to say after watching him live for about 17-18 years, that was one of the best shows I've seen! He did a lot of stuff off the new CD, some off the first 2, the usual Throw your arms, Holy Grail and What's a Few Men?, but also some old H&C dinosaurs - When the River Runs Dry and one of my favourites, True Tears of Joy. It was amazing, and he was in fine form too. If you have any contact with his management people, please urge them to use the Brass Monkey again - it was small and intimate, non smoking (yeah), and the acoustics were really great, not to mention that it's close to home too!
25 May 2004 - Vanguard May 21 Gig Set List Courtesy of one of the most devoted Hunna's fans in the world, Dave Skinner, comes this set list and comments on Mark's recent gig at the Vanguard: The Ballad Of The One Eyed man Mark was on fire, great show. Small but intimate venue. Had the pleasure of catching up with Rob Miles, Mark Seymour and Michael Roberts backstage after the show. Had some short but interesting conversation and am looking forward to attending one of the three shows at Newtown's Sandringham in a few weeks...

30 April 2004 - Embedded Chart Performance Mark's excellent "Embedded" album debuted at #159 in Australia this week. It performed best in Victoria/Tasmania (#105), then Queensland (#168), then Western Australia (#184), then New South Wales/ACT (#203) and South Australia/Northern Territory (#232). Promotion is taking off this week and next week, so it would be extremely surprising if sales do not improve. [Thanks Sarch]
12 April 2004 - Mark Embedded News Mark's "Embedded" album is only one week away and is hence now available for pre-ordering at most music stores. Online stores selling Embedded, from the most recommended, include:
Reviews of "Embedded" are starting to appear. We have already added two to the Articles section. Please send us (stu@humanfrailty.com) any reviews you happen to come across. Mark will be doing a quick promotional tour (no performances) in Queensland from the 27th to the 30th of April. Four Queensland gigs will occur one month later (see the latest Mark gig update on this page for more details).
9 April 2004 - Mark's Embedded Interview, News True Believers is likely to gain an interview in a few weeks time with Mark Seymour to talk about his third solo album, "Embedded". We have no idea how we are to do this, but will work something out. The important matter is... what questions should we ask? We need some good questions! :) Please send Stuart questions at stu@humanfrailty.com . "Embedded" is released on the 19th of April 2004. Sound samples are available on Mark's site (http://www.markseymour.com.au/) and the first review of Embedded has been published on the Internet (http://www.undercover.com.au/reviews/urmarkseymourembedded.html).
8 April 2004 - Final Mutations Track Listing and Details There has been a lot of action being the scenes over the last month with the Hunters and Collectors "Mutations" rarities collection. We are now very close to the end of the game, with the track listing and art work more or less complete. Click here to go to the Mutations page and view the final track listing. Click here to go to our article on The Making Of Mutations where we review the debates and decisions made on this album.
4 April 2004 - New Mark Seymour Site Launched Mark Seymour's site has been completely relaunched at http://www.markseymour.com.au The site has received a well needed freshening up and contains some new sections. Sound samples, lyrics and other information is provided on the Embedded tracks. Seymour Rants contains a classic story of touring in Northern America and John Archer's driving. The site is loading slowly at the moment which is not a good sign, but is hopefully because of increased traffic.
3 April 2004 - Natural Selection 1 CD Version In Stores The one CD version of the Hunters and Collectors "Natural Selection" album is already available in stores, despite an official release date of April 19!
2 April 2004 - Call For Interest: Fan H&C Bootleg Trade A list of the bootlegs (unofficial live recordings) that we have managed to get hold of through True Believers are listed on this page: http://www.humanfrailty.com/albums/bootlegs.htm Would you like to have a copy of all of these bootlegs? The plan is a primitive trade as follows. A number of people express their
interest and a list is created. Each person: You will need a CD burner. It is important that you process and send on the discs as quickly as
possible.
The band does not have an official position on bootlegs. Bootlegs ARE NOT
a substitute for the three live albums available new.

31 March 2004 - Do Not Bid On This E-Bay Item At True Believers, we do not like it when people attempt to take advantage of loyal fans for great financial gain and electronic auction site E-bay is often the local of such evil deeds.. An advance or promotional copy of Mark Seymour's third solo album, Embedded, has been put up on E-bay three weeks ahead of release (19 April). This is not the idea of promotional copies and is simply exploiting fan love for great financial gain. DO NOT BID ON IT.
The bidding ends in about a week, by the time everything is sorted out you will

15 March 2004 - More on "43 In The Shade" Thanks to Paul Costello at Liberation Records, we have our hands on the radio only "43 In The Shade" Mark Seymour promotional single. Of note to the more obsessed of us is that the version on this single is a "single edit" of length 3 minutes and 38 seconds, which is 36 seconds shorter than the album version. The difference appears to be accounted for by the complete removal of the 34 second introduction at the start of the album version. The mix does not appear to be different between the two versions. With "43 In The Shade" released to radio today, we can pester radio stations in our spare time to get the song played. If you hear or get the song on the radio, we would really like to know about it (and shout you a beer). Please e-mail Stuart.

15 February 2004 - Mark Gig Update The latest Mark Seymour gigs direct from Mark's site and Michael Roberts:
A press release from Mark Seymour on the February 29 gig: The acoustic music that is played in the smaller clubs and bars of Melbourne, is enjoyed by an audience that is both wide ranging in its age and cultural background. I have attempted to bring together a musical program that reflects this broad array of style and mood by bringing together artists whose emotional language would appear on the surface to be unrelated. The day begins with a set from Caroline Kennedy. Caroline is a master of delicate melancholic pop that resonates with yearning and laconic wit. She has been writing and performing for over fifteen years. Although she is best known for fronting "Deadstar," her artistic legacy is far richer than that. Her latest project "The Tulips", displays all the hallmarks of an artist who is maturing and exploring emotion with an new and invigorated subtlety. Next on the bill is a short set from Hope Csutoros and Judy
Gunson, who together, form the core of the "Stiletto Sisters', who's renditions
of traditional gypsy music will hopefully drive home the complex cultural
heritage that post-war migration has brought to Melbourne. By integrating this broad variety of musical talent on one bill my aim is to show how easily a seemingly disparate array of style and genre can entertain by introducing the element of surprise, when in it is presented in an unpretentious acoustic environment.
12 February 2004 - Mark's '43 In The Shade' Promotional Single "43 In The Shade" is to be the first promotional single from Mark Seymour's upcoming "Embedded" album. Many fans of Mark Seymour are familiar with Rod due to his frequent touring with Mark. Rod is currently touring the east coast of Australia and will be touring again through September and October.
16 August 2003 - Embedded Delay Mark's third solo album, "Embedded", is not likely to be out before the new year, we believe. We will keep you posted on any more details as they come to hand.
9 August 2003 - Mark Gig Update Mark's site (http://www.markseymour.com.au/) has posted an upcoming gig at Uncle Neil's Place in Victoria:
8 August 2003 - Mark and Crashburn News on Mark Seymour's site (http://www.markseymour.com.au/) from Michael Roberts: Mark had done a cover version of the Leonard Cohen track "Dance Me To The End Of Love" which is to be used as the theme music for a new Channel 10 TV series called "Crashburn". The series goes to air on the 18th August at 8:30pm in the same slot as "Secret Life Of Us". One of Mark's new recordings, "Try Not To Try", is also to be used as part of the shows radio and television promotion and will be included in the first series soundtrack release. Note: We believe that the "Crashburn" soundtrack will be on Liberation Records but have no other details. "Try Not To Try" is 95% likely to be on Mark's third solo album "Embedded", which we do not have a release date for yet. We are unsure of whether or not "Dance Me To The End Of Love" will be on "Embedded".
2 August 2003 - Updated 'Best Of' Track Listing Click here to access the web page for the new Hunters and Collectors "Selection" 'best of' releases. The track listing on this pages is now more or less final and unlikely to change before the scheduled release date of the 15th of September.
1 August 2003 - Fans Unite! Mutations Track Listing! The track listing the more obsessed of us have been salivating in anticipation of has arrived! Click here to go to the Mutations albums page and view the track listing for the forthcoming Hunters and Collectors rarities album. We currently have no word on an official release date.
29 June 2003 - Hunters DVD's: All Region For those fans outside of Australia, we have some good news! While likely to only be in the PAL format, all forthcoming Hunters and Collectors DVD's ("Under One Roof", a 'best of' and later probably "The Way To Go Out") are going to be all region discs (region '0'). This means that as long as you can play PAL format video, you will be able to play these DVD's.
26 June 2003 - Hunters Release Dates Below are approximate release dates for the mass of Hunters and Collectors releases that will surface in 2003 and 2004 from Liberation Records:
[Thanks Paul]
23 July 2003 - Release Date Update The remaining Hunters and Collectors remasters (Hunters and Collectors, Fireman's Curse, Jaws Of Life, What's A Few Men?, Demon Flower and Juggernaut) will be released on August 11. The date was pushed back a week because "What's A Few Men?" took a little longer than expected. The "What's A Few Men?" release will be the original album (unavailable new since the early 1990's) with the additional tracks from "Fate" attached on the end. The 'best of', Natural Selection, is planned for a September 15 release in two CD and DVD formats. The one CD format is planned to be introduced some stage later, and the two CD version discontinued. The track listing is still not finalised. [Thanks Paul]
18 July 2003 - Release Date For Remasters Part 2 Online music stores (Chaos Music, HMV, Sanity) are all claiming that the Hunters and Collectors studio album re-releases will be out on Monday the 11th of August rather than the 4th of August. We are currently uncertain as to which date is correct.
17 July 2003 - Release Date For More Remasters The remaining Hunters and Collectors studio albums will be released by Liberation Records in remastered form on Monday the 4th of August. On this date "Hunters and Collectors", "The Fireman's Curse", "The Jaws Of Life", "What's A Few Men?", "Demon Flower" and "Juggernaut" will be released. "Human Frailty", "Ghost Nation" and "Cut" have already been released in remastered format. The "What's A Few Men?" release will be the original album (unavailable new since the early 1990's) with the additional tracks from "Fate" attached on the end. This means that for the first time in around ten years, "Still Hanging 'Round" and "Give Me A Reason" will be available new on compact disc. Beyond this good news, the remastered "Hunters and Collectors" and "Jaws Of Life" albums are noticeably better sounding than the original CD releases. [Thanks Paul]
15 July 2003 - Mutations, Anyone? Good news for fans! There shall be a single CD Hunters and Collectors rarities album released in the new year. This album is most likely to contain a complete collection of studio b-sides (there are 18 songs in total). This is the release where fan opinions from this site have had a significant impact on the album's nature. The rarities album will be titled "Mutations", along the lines of the "Natural Selection" and "Unnatural Selection" labels for the new 'best of'. Click here to find out more about Mutations.
14 July 2003 - Three Remasters Already Available! Surprise! Three remastered Hunters and Collectors re-releases are already available. Liberation records released "Human Frailty", "Cut" and "Ghost Nation" at a recommended retail price of A$22 on the 7th of July 2003. These remasters have improved sound but are not as significantly improved as the forthcoming self titled, Jaws Of Life and The Way To Go Out re-releases. The remasters are distinguishable by the "Liberation Blue" artwork on the back of the CD case. These new releases can be purchased from stores in Australia (you may have to order them in) or bought online from Chaos Music, Whammo, HMV and others.
13 July 2003 - True Believers Is Two Years Old This little old site is two years old day and still kicking strong...
12 July 2003 - Value Approximations Added Approximate values of all Hunters and Collectors related releases available have been added throughout the site. Every single and album page now contains a range of prices that you should expect to pay for that release. The range in prices (eg. $5-$25) indicates you would expect to pay the lower value ($5) for a barely alive but playable copy and the top price ($25) for an excellent 'as new' condition copy. These approximate valuations have been added mainly to combat situations where people are ripped off by irresponsible sellers (eg. "Ghost Nation! Rare! A$40!"). Please do not hesitate to contact Stuart if you feel that a valuation in unrealistic.
11 July 2003 - Jack Howard's Second Solo Album Jack Howard's second solo album, the follow-up to last years brilliant "Secrets and White Lies" debut, is likely to be released around November this year. Tentatively titled "Let's Fall In Love", the album is currently being recorded with Jack hoping to have it finished by September. Jack continues to play at The Elwood RSL every Friday night with his band The Long Lost Brothers. The Elwood RSL is located at 2 Pine Avenue, Elwood (phone 03 9531 4894).
10 July 2003 - Latest On The 'Best Of' Releases Click here to access the web page for the new Hunters and Collectors 'best of' releases, which shall be released later this year by Liberation Records. This page is the location to find details on these releases, including the latest planned release dates and track listings. The 'best of' is to be released in one CD and two CD formats. The one CD format disc and the first disc of the two CD format is tentatively titled "natural selection", while the second disc of the two CD set is to be "unnatural selection".
10 July 2003 - Know Your Product Behind the scenes at Liberation Records and in the back yards of certain former members of Hunters and Collectors, track listings are circulating for the one and two CD versions of the Hunters and Collectors 'best of'. This is a big exercise in 'know your product'. The new release must be easy on the ears of a new fan, satisfying and representative to the band and fans, while not replicating the old "Collected Works" album. Early 'best of' track listings have already been modified on the basis of fan recommendations and views (see the fan survey results). Below are the current proposed track listings: CD 1 01. Talking To A Stranger Limited Edition CD 2 01. The Finger Comments and feedback are welcome to Stuart Fenech. Please remember, though, that Hunters and Collectors taste is incredible subjective. We believe that these set listings are very good given the nature of the release. Below is an overview of the more 'contentious issues':
3 July 2003 - Hunters Albums Remasters The Hunters and Collectors back catalogue of studio albums (except 1998's "Juggernaut") is being remastered for the Liberation Records re-releases around August this year. The most significant improvements will be heard on the 1980's albums. Martin Pullen and Robert Miles have been working on the remastering for a while and have only one album to go. Rob is particularly pleased with the 'wider and more muscular' classic 1984 "Jaws Of Life" album.
23 June 2003 - Upcoming 'Best Of' Format More details have arisen on the Hunters and Collectors 'best of' to be released later this year. The limited edition two CD version will be a comprehensive (approximately 36 track) collection of studio recordings. A comparatively compressed one CD collection will be the ongoing version of the 'best of' available into the foreseeable future. [Thanks Paul]
22 June 2003 - The Way To Go Out and Living Re-Releases Although not mentioned by Liberation records, the popular Hunters and Collectors live albums "The Way To Go Out" and "Living In Large Rooms and Lounges" shall be re-released. These releases are likely to be some time in 2004, following the re-release of the standard studio albums (along with "Under One Roof" and a 'best of') later this year. Furthermore, the release of "The Way To Go Out" on DVD is 'probable'. [Thanks Paul]
21 June 2003 - Big H&C News From Liberation Liberation records has released details on the forthcoming Hunters and Collectors re-releases. The below points are of note for fans (but subject to change, of course):
The original Liberation news item can be viewed here. True Believers is in contact with Liberation Records and shall report any news in relation to the re-releases as soon as it comes to hand. True Believers, briefly, strongly advocates the following (from fan consultation):
17 June 2003 - Mark Seymour Third Solo Album Update For all anticipating Mark's third solo album "Embedded", we have some news! The album is complete, the track listing has been determined and it is currently being mixed. The release date remains likely to be in September or October of this year. Mark's site contains the following news: "3rd Solo Album in the Wings! Mark is currently putting the finishing touches on his third solo album, 'Embedded', which is a remarkable collection of soulful ballads and pop rock. Produced by Cameron McKenzie, this record is easily his best. Release details to be announced soon........" Cameron McKenzie, formerly of Horsehead, has played guitar in Mark's "Human Tide" band in recent years. The claim of "Embedded" being Mark's best record to date is bold, given the brilliance of his second solo album, "One Eyed Man". If it can live up to this claim, "Embedded" is sure to be the album of 2003 for many.
3 June 2003 - Mark Seymour Acting Appearances Mark Seymour is acting in the play "Matilda Goes Down" at the Mechanics Institute on the 4th, 6th and 7th June 2003. 3 May 2003 - Hunna's Deal Signed Hunters and Collectors have signed a new record deal for their extensive back catalogue. Signing with Liberation Records (www.liberation.com.au), the Hunna's music is again under the direction of Michael Gudinski (former renowned head of Mushroom Records). Although the back catalogue shall not instantly reappear on shelves, this is promising for re-releases and DVD's towards the end of 2003 and during 2004.
2 May 2003 - Two More Songs For Mark's Album It was recently decided to record two more songs for Mark's third solo album. This means that while the album is not fully recorded, it is very close!
24 April 2003 - Jack Howard Launch Over the following few weeks Jack Howard is launching a single "Frankenstein" and re-launching his great debut album "Secrets and White Lies". The first event finds Jack performing on 774 ABC's evening show with Derek Guille on Tuesday the 6th of May. The main event is on Friday the 9th of May at 9:30pm at the Elwood RSL. The brilliant Dan Hall (ex-Taxiride) is to be the special guest for this fine evening. So come along, enjoy a meal in the bistro (the chicken parmigiana comes highly recommended) and acquaint yourself with the coldest, cheapest beer in the city of Melbourne. Jack can also be caught at a 'meet and greet' at Cosmos Books in Aceland St., St. Kilda on Saturday the 10th May at around 2pm. While all of this is going on, Jack's gigs shall still continue every Friday night at the Elwood RSL. Sharky Ramos, the new drummer for Jack's "Long Lost Brothers" band, has melded in well and these evenings remain one of Melbourne's best kept secrets. The Elwood RSL is located at 2 Pine Avenue, Elwood (phone 03 9531 4894).
23 April 2003 - A New Jack Howard Project Former Hunters and Collectors trumpet and backing vocalist Jack Howard has been busy. 22 April 2003 - Jack Howard "Frankenstein" Single A promotional single is being released from Jack Howard's "Secrets and White Lies" solo debut album. The chosen single, "Frankenstein", dates back to Jack's "Lo Stresso Tempo" EP back in 2000. Originally written by Gary Burgess with an arrangement by Vince Bell, Jack's take on "Frankenstein" is a dark, moody twist on the classic tale. Also included on the single are two choice cuts from "Secrets", "Sail Upon Her Smile" and "Heard You Cry".
21 April 2003 - MMM Brisbane Top 1000 Rock Songs Another 'top 1000 rock songs' list from Triple M in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and another set of placing's for Hunters and Collectors songs. 1 April 2003 - H&C Back Catalogue Deleted The existing Festival Mushroom Records contract for the Hunters and Collectors back catalogue has expired. In effect, this means that Hunters and Collectors albums are no longer being manufactured. All albums are still currently available new in certain stores, but this is from existing stock as no new copies are being made. It is likely that at some point in the near future there will be a new contract for the manufacture and distribution of the Hunters and Collectors back catalogue. However, there may be some time where Hunters and Collectors albums are not available new.
31 March 2003 - Cheap H&C Albums JB's Hi-Fi in Brisbane (Australia) are selling ALL Hunters and Collectors albums brand new for under A$10. We hope that you all enjoyed it as much as the musicians.
24 February 2003 - Mark Seymour Joined Pearl Jam In Perth! Excellent news for fans of Mark Seymour and Pearl Jam! Mark Seymour joined Eddie Vedder at the Perth Pearl Jam concert for a rendition of "Throw Your Arms Around Me". Thanks to the (awesome) Pearl Jam official bootleg series, you can purchase this performance by buying the Perth (23 February 2003) gig from Pearl Jam Bootlegs. Below is a quote from X-Press Magazine on the duet: "...What happened next was one of those great, unforgettable rock moments: Vedder invited ex-Hunters And Collectors frontman Mark Seymour on stage to join him in a duet of Seymour's classic Throw Your Arms Around Me - a song Vedder declared he's sung at every campfire he's ever sat around. The word is Vedder was playing the song in sound check when he was informed Seymour was in town - the hunt was on."
20 February 2003 - For The Pearl Jam Fans... A performance of the Hunna's classic "Throw Your Arms Around Me" was played in the Melbourne, Wednesday 19 February 2003 gig in Australia. The performance involves simply Ed's vocals and an electric guitar. The good news is that since Pearl Jam are continuing the (awesome) official bootleg releases, the gig containing this song can already be ordered over the Internet. 16 February 2003 - Anti-War in Iraq Protests While the governments in America, Great Britain and Australia continue to impose a war on Iraq upon their citizens, public opinion remains divided. Here in Australia, some of the largest protests since the Vietnam war have taken place. Former Hunters and Collectors lead singer Mark Seymour was involved in one of the first protests of the last few days. On Valentines day, Friday the 14th of February 2003, more than 120,000 people marched through the streets of Melbourne rallying for peace. Mark Seymour joined Peter Garrett and ministers of parliament including Natasha Stott Despoja and Bob Brown in speaking out against the war. Exclusive to True Believers, Mark Seymour's speech is reproduced below. I'd just like to say a few words, before we play, about why we are here today in such overwhelming numbers. United though we are in our opposition to this war, there are some basic facts we need to confront if we are serious about changing the direction our country is going in... Not only is John Howard ignoring us but, sadly, he is also firmly convinced that he is right. And despite all of his rhetoric about national obligation and duty, there are other simple truths you can guarantee. If this war starts: There WILL BE massive loss of life. There WILL BE unbridled carnage. There WILL BE unimaginable suffering on the ground, and for the global community, the repercussions will be devastating. Terrorism will flourish. So when John Howard tells us that we have a moral obligation to wage war on Saddam, we must ask John Howard, do we therefore have an obligation to slaughter hundreds and thousands of innocent Iraqi's, men, women and children alike? Is this part of the war on Terror? Of course it isn't. Tell John Howard that we Australians are morally opposed to this war. And not only do WE have the courage of our convictions, but above all, WE know we are right! We will fight tooth and nail to turn the political tide against John Howard. We will win the hearts and minds of our fellow Australians, and bring this government to its senses, or bring it to its knees!
14 February 2003 - Jack Howard Update Jack Howard's Friday night gigs are continuing at the Elwood RSL (2 Pine Avenue, Elwood, 03 9531 4894). Jack will also be appearing at the Rosstown Hotel in Carnegie (Corner of Koornang and Dandenong Road) on Saturday the 1st of March. The ABC Internet based radio station dig has been giving Jack a fair bit of support. Jack's debut solo album "Secrets and White Lies" was the feature album for a week back in October. Dig are going to release a compilation album which includes "Great White Way" some time in the future. The compilation album shall feature many prominent artists including Kasey Chambers and Elvis Costello.

Thanks to Martin and Miriam, here is the code to program "Holy Grail" into Nokia phones with composer: 8c1 8f1 8c2 8#a1 8a1 4g1 4f1

3 December 2002 - Midnight Oil Splits! True Believers are shocked tonight as legendary Australian band Midnight Oil have parted ways. The well known tall bald lead singer, Peter Garret, decided to leave the band and in turn Midnight Oil are no longer (though the other band members plan to play together at some stage in the future). The dissolving comes within one year of the excellent "Capricornia" album, which was regarded by many (True Believers included) to be a great return to form. See the news at Whammo or Midnight Oil's website for more information.
29 November 2002 - Mark Seymour Third Solo Album Update Things have been very quiet lately about Mark Seymour and his third solo album, the follow-up to the exceptional "One Eyed Man". The good news is that Mark and friends are continuing to work on the album, with nine songs now recorded.

8 November 2002 - Hunters & Collectors, Mark Seymour on Home & Away Mushroom Music publishing has placed records online of music played during episodes of Australian soapie "Home and Away". The records contain many mentions of Mark Seymour and Hunters and Collectors songs. Notably, some Mark songs ("Strange Little Town" and "Ready To Go", for example) have been played on the program but are not included in this list. From July 1997 to August 2002 the following Mark Seymour and Hunters and Collectors songs are listed as having been played:
20 October 2002 - Mark Seymour on 'Australians Unite' Mark Seymour and Rod Davies played "Throw Your Arms Around Me" on television tonight as part of the 'Australians Unite' special on the seven network. It was a national Red Cross appeal in relation to the Bali tragedy - donations can be made on 1800 339 888.
10 October 2002 - Jack Howard Gig Update The great Friday night Jack Howard and the Long Lost Brothers gigs continue at the Elwood RSL. Jack has been playing every Friday night at the Elwood RSL since around March. The Elwood RSL is located at 2 Pine Avenue, Elwood (near Melbourne, Australia) and can be contacted on (03) 9531 4894. Below are the guests for the next few weeks:
The following upcoming album launches for Jack Howard's solo debut album "Secrets and White Lies" are still on.
Jack Howard will also be appearing on 774ABC's evening show on Monday the 4th of November, doing a live-to-air broadcast.
7 October 2002 - Regarding The Holy Grail Ring Tone A couple of weeks ago there was some obscure publicity for Mark Seymour and company. Ella Hooper of Killing Heidi announced on popular Australia general affairs comedy talk show "The Panel" that "Holy Grail" is Mark's ring tone. So how did this happen? Robert Miles (sound, art) called Mark one day while Mark happened to be in a briefing for the artists performing at the AFL Grand Final. That is was singing out "Holy Grail" did not go unnoticed, even finding it's way to Christie Eliezer's (excellent) music and media business news at The Music. Ella Hooper was, of course, at this briefing as Killing Heidi also performed at the AFL Grand Final. So can we get the ring tone? We are still working on this but currently it is not simply available. The ring tone was made by Mark Seymour and Robert Miles by programming it in to Nokia mobile phones using the 'composer' function. Unfortunately, it seems that more recent Nokia software has ditched the 'composer' functionality. The ring tone was used by Mark, Rob Miles, Michael Roberts (Mark's manager) and probably a number of other people in the know last year.
2 October 2002 - True Believers Guestbook True Believers now has a guestbook where you can have your say about Hunters and Collectors, this site or perhaps life in general. The guestbook is provided free of charge by Lycos, for which we have to suffer a bit of advertising for the privilege. We hope you enjoy this new section.

1 September 2002 - MMM Brisbane Top 1000 Rock Songs From August 19 to 30 2002 modern rock station MMM in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia has been playing the top 1000 rock songs of all time as voted by Brisbane. The eight Hunters and Collectors songs deeply loved by Brisbane radio all made the top 1000. The number in brackets indicates how the songs went in the top 500 MMM Brisbane count down in October 2001.
30 August 2002 - Mark At The Footy Rod Davies website informs us today about a couple of upcoming Mark Seymour performances. Mark Seymour and Rod Davies will be performing at this years AFL Brownlow Medal count at Colonial Stadium on 23rd of September. Mark and the Human Tide will be performing at the AFL grand final at the MCG on the 28th of September.
25 August 2002 - Mark Seymour: Actor! Mark Seymour has been doing some acting in his 'spare time'. A full article from today's Herald Sun has been placed in the media section. The below brief information is from the Herald Sun newspaper on Saturday the 24th of August 2002: JOY RAGE & OTHER MISDEMEANOURS Thankyou to Jenelle Cleary and Miriam Norman for the news!
18 August 2002 - Full Length Mark Seymour Mp3's We are proud to announce that five full length Mark Seymour mp3's are available for download in the sounds section. Provided with support from Mark and his management, this is an ideal way to sample what the former lead singer of the Hunna's is up to. The songs provided are "Last Ditch Cabaret", "The Ghost Of Vainglory", "Don't You Know Me?", "The Ballad Of The One Eyed Man" and "Paradise Down Under (live)".
8 August 2002 - 'Secrets' Lyrics, Sound Samples Online Lyrics to all songs on Jack Howard's solo debut Secrets and White Lies are now available from the Secrets and White Lies page. Last week guests were Nicky Del Rey from Intoxika with Scott from The Living End on bass and Emilie from Luxedo on violin. The great guests are continuing to join Jack over the next month:
Jack will also be playing at "The Rosstown Hotel" in Carnegie on Saturday the 12th of October. Listen out for CD launches in Melbourne and Sydney in the near future...
29 July 2002 - Jack Howard Album Released! This one came up rather suddenly in the end - Jack Howard's first full length solo album "Secrets and White Lies" is available right NOW! Click here to go to the "Secrets and White Lies" page for more information (track listing, etc). Jack Howard's album can be ordered online directly from Laughing Outlaw Records.
23 July 2002 - Cheek Over "Holy Grail" Below is a good summary article on the recent use of the Hunters and Collectors classic "Holy Grail" by the Tasmanian Liberals from TheMusic: Mark Seymour was spitting chips when the Tasmanian Liberals used Hunters & Collectors' "Holy Grail" as part of the party's election launch at the Derwent Entertainment Centre. Thundered Seymour, "We are disgusted by the appropriation of our much loved anthem by a political party that we utterly despise." He said the song had been performed without permission. It is reported that Joe Camilleri was not overly impressed that Black Sorrows' "Better Times Ahead" was also played at the rally. The musicians had the last laugh: the Liberals got a good kicking by the voters.
17 July 2002 - Michael Roberts Selling Home TheMusic reports that long time Hunters and Collectors and Mark Seymour manager Michael Roberts is selling up: "... in Melbourne, Mark Seymour's manager Michael Roberts is selling his Tuscan-style two-bedroom apartment in the CDB for close to $400,000."
30 June 2002 - Jack Howard's Album: About A Month Jack Howard's debut full length album "Secrets and White Lies" should be out in about a month, as the artwork is in the final phases at the moment. Jack continues to play the Elwood RSL on Friday nights for those in the Melbourne area.
22 June 2002 - Upcoming Mark Seymour Gigs Straight from Mark Seymour's site, here are details on upcoming gigs in Victoria:
19 July 2002 - Liberals: The Holy Grail of Australian Politics? The Tasmanian Liberal Party came under fire for using the Hunters and Collectors classic "Holy Grail" during their campaign launch. The members and management of Hunters and Collectors had no knowledge of the use of the song until an e-mail was sent from a fan. Copyright clearance would have been required if the song was used in a visual presentation, but since the song was just played clearance was not required. The members of Hunters and Collectors are overwhelmingly anti-Liberal and therefore the use of the song struck a chord, so to speak. Mark Seymour (former lead singer) wrote a passionate letter to Tasmania's "The Mercury" newspaper after the tip-off. Surprisingly, Mark's letter became the subject of a massive front page article in "The Mercury" around the 10th of July 2002. [Thankyou Michael Roberts, Miriam Norman]
20 June 2002 - Songs Mark Recorded Recently It has been confirmed that Mark Seymour recorded four songs recently in a 'rough mix' form. These are "Paradise Down Under", "Made Man", "Try Not To Try" and "Show Me Love".
18 June 2002 - Check This Out: Rod Davies Website Rodney Davies, seen frequently performing with Mark Seymour, has a great personal website at http://www.roddavies.com . It includes solo sound samples, photo's and other interesting stuff. Well worth checking out.
6 June 2002 - See You In Sydney, New Mark Articles. Thanks to some well aimed convincing and support from Miriam, I
(Stuart, webmaster) will be attending two of the Mark Seymour gigs in Sydney
(Manly, Friday June 14 and Rozelle, Saturday June 15). We may catch you there...
:)
11 May 2002 - Hunna's Fans: Good News For 2003 Hunters and Collectors existing contract with Festival-Mushroom Records expires in early 2003. As at this time, there are a realm of possibilities for the extensive back catalogue: you name it and it is probably a possibility. Stay tuned for details...
5 May 2002 - Welcome To humanfrailty.com ! True Believers has taken a move towards bigger and greater things by securing our own domain name... we are the proud owners of www.humanfrailty.com :-). A number of changes have gone on behind the scenes to make this be, but little will seem that different on appearance. The Human Frailty address, of course, is taken from the classic 1986 Hunters and Collectors album of that name. Thankyou to Toby Harnisch of Savage Garden net for the technical advise, MyDomain.com for the free domain services and Myacen Network for the great domain registration deal.
30 April 2002 - Jack Howard Update Every Friday night Jack Howard and the Long Lost Brothers can still be found playing at the Elwood RSL, 2 Pine Avenue, Elwood (near Melbourne, Australia). It seems fairly safe to assume this will continue for some time, though calling the RSL on (03) 9531 4894 may be recommended. Guests for the next two performances are Monique Brumby (May 3rd) and former Crowded House member Paul Hester (May 10th).
27 April 2002 - Mark Seymour Gigs In Coming Months Mark Seymour's official site has posted some gig dates:
24 April 2002 - Upcoming Gig In... Cairns For those people in Cairns, Queensland, Australia: there is an acoustic (Mark and Rod) gig planned for the near future. Stay tuned for details.
7 April 2002 - Hunna's DVD... 'About 12 Months' [Sidenote: Higher sources indicate H&C DVD(s) for the second half of 2003 or 2004 - April 2003 seems too early] Work is underway on a Hunters and Collectors anthology DVD, for release in around one years time. The only planned version currently is a DVD. No Hunters and Collectors material is currently available on DVD. I'm excited :-) (Source: Festival Mushroom Records).
6 April 2002 - Under One Roof Sales It turns out that 1998 Hunters and Collectors final live cut, "Under One Roof", has been selling rather well. It is already past 150,000 sales in Australia, which qualifies it as double platinum. This puts "Under One Roof" up there in Australian sales terms with "Human Frailty", "Ghost Nation" and "Cut" (the top selling Hunna's albums). Those who are particularly alert may note that "Under One Roof" never entered the Australian top 100 albums chart - leading to the question of how it could have possibly sold 150,000 copies. The reason for this 'inconsistency' is chart rules used by the Australian chart authority ARIA (the Australian Record Industry Association). "Under One Roof:" had a RRP (recommended retail price) of A$20, which was well below the 'normal' RRP of around A$31. ARIA does not allow albums with RRP's that low to enter the album chart.
2 April 2002 - Album Voting Results NOTE: These results are continually updated in the albums section (only) as new data comes in. You can still HAVE YOUR SAY. In February True Believers began a survey of fan perspectives on albums. The results have now been collated and are on display at the albums section. At this moment in time the albums that are doing the best were "Cut" (9.5), Mark's "One Eyed Man" (9.5), "Under One Roof" (album 9.5, video 8.5), "Collected Works" (Aus album and video, 9), "Human Frailty" (8.5), "What's A Few Men?" (8.5), "Living In Large Rooms and Lounges" (8.5) and Mark's "King Without A Clue" (8.5).
31 March 2002 - Barry Palmer in Lash Album: Out Today Former Hunters and Collectors guitarist Barry Palmer (also of Deadstar fame) has co-written and co-produced the debut album for the Australian rock band Lash. Titled "The Beautiful and Damned", the album is out in Australian stores as of Sunday, the 31st of March 2002. Lash have already had two top 40 hits off this album: "Take Me Away" (#33) and "Beauty Queen" (#31). The current single, "Don't Ever Make My Mind Up" has so far failed to reach higher than #86. Click here to go to the official Lash website.
13 March 2002 - Great Mark Seymour Gig Last Sunday! By all reports the Sunday March 10 gig went very well: with punters, Mark, Rod and Rob all extremely pleased with the acoustic performance. Mark and Rod were in fine form and the audience were keen, even spilling out to the footpath passed the edge of the lawn outside the Arts Centre. [Thanks Rob]. There was also a private band show for the Jaguar Racing Team two weeks ago on a Wednesday...
1 March 2002 - Jack Howard and... Long Lost Brothers Today we have some detailed information on the upcoming Jack Howard Friday evening Elwood RSL (Melbourne) gigs. Jack will be playing solo from 9.15 to 10pm and again from 11 to 11:45pm with his band "The Long Lost Brothers". The supporting acts over the coming weeks are:
The Friday evening Elwood RSL gigs are going to continue beyond the 22nd of March.
22 February 2002 - True Believers Survey on H&C Albums When you have a spare five minutes or so, could you please fill out this form and e-mail it to Stuart ( stu@humanfrailty.com ). We are after ratings out of 10 for all Hunters and Collectors related albums, and your favourite tracks off each. We list all albums and their track listings for you in the form. We are after this to improve the albums section of the website, that currently holds Stuart's ratings and recommendations. It will also be very interesting to see how other fans sit on particular albums and tracks. Even if you only have a few albums, please give it a go. You can view the form here. This is not urgent but would be of great value if you could flick through it at some stage. [I am still collecting data from this survey! Your say counts! Please do it... for us ;) ]
21 February 2002 - More Mark Basement Sound Samples Along with the five 'Ballad Of The One Eyed Man Live At The Basement' sound samples on True Believers, Mark Seymour's site now has six average quality mp3 sound samples in the "recordings" section (CD version). Incredibly, no songs are on both this site and Mark's site (I suspect this may be more than coincidence).
19 February 2002 - Upcoming Jack Howard Gigs From March onwards, former Hunna's member Jack Howard will be playing at The Elwood RSL (Melbourne area) every Friday night with special guests each week - all sorts of interesting people doing their solo thing. The focus of these performances will be Jack's eagerly anticipated (well, by us at least!) "Secrets and White Lies" debut album. Two mp3 audio samples ("Heard You Cry" and "You Will Find") from this to-be-released album can be found in the sound samples section.
18 February 2002 - Update: Home & Away Loves Mark A while ago we posted that Australian soapie "Home and Away" regularly plays Mark Seymour. This is an update, after they played most of "You Don't Have To Cry Anymore" fairly prominently tonight. The current collective Mark Seymour that have been played as background music on Home and Away includes "Strange Little Town" (at least twice), "Long Way Down" (at least twice), "Look What She's Done To You" (twice), "You Don't Have To Cry Anymore", "See You Around", "Supagirl", "Blue Morning", "Last Ditch Cabaret" and "Ready To Go". Although I guess most people do not watch "Home and Away" for the music, thankyou Mike P. for your continual support. The dedication shown by "Home and Away" to local artists and talents puts Australian commercial radio to utter shame.
16 February 2002 - Latest On Jack Howard Album Jack Howard's first solo album "Secrets and White Lies" is planned to be released around April/May this year through Sydney based independent label Laughing Outlaw Records.
15 February 2002 - Mark Rumour... A couple of 'sources' suggest that Mark Seymour is back in the recording studio :-).
4 February 2002 - New Mark CD In Stores! The new Mark Seymour live CD, The Ballad Of The One Eyed Man Live At The Basement, is now available in music stores across Australia. The CD is already available for the slightly discounted price of $25.99 at JB's Hi-Fi in Brisbane for those in the area. First impressions of the distribution of the album are good, as was the case with the Basement DVD in November. The December 10 news below (and the sound section) contain some audio samples from the DVD/CD that may be of interest :-)
24 January 2002 - Track Listing For New Mark CD Click here to go the 'Ballad Of The One Eyed Man Live At The Basement' page and check out the track listing for the upcoming CD version release.
22 January 2002 - Mark's New Live CD Title, Pre-ordering Mark Seymour's new live CD is to be titled exactly as per the DVD, "The Ballad Of The One Eyed Man: Live At The Basement". The CD is now appearing at various sites for pre-ordering by the keen. HMV have it down for $24.95 and Sanity for $25.95. It seems like it is to be released on a "Basement" label of sorts, as the record company and catalogue number are listed as BASEMENT and BASE002 respectively at HMV. As per previous reports, the CD is out on the 4th of February 2002.
15 January 2002 - Upcoming Mark Seymour Gigs There are three separate gigs involved in the "A Day On The Green" winery series. These are all ages gigs that include Mark Seymour along with Paul Kelly, Renee Gayer and other great musical artists.
There will also be a Melbourne show called "On The Lawn" at the Victorian Arts Centre on the 10th of March 2002.
14 January 2002 - Mark Seymour Live CD Release Date! We have a release date for the Mark Seymour Live CD (recorded at the Basement gig) thanks to Michael Roberts. Expect to see the album in stores on Monday the 4th of February 2002. On a similar note, new copies of "One Eyed Man" carry an "ARIA Award Winner" sticker (this has probably been the case for a while but I only just saw one).
13 January 2002 - Sydney Mark Fans: Congratulations On all accounts the fan turnout and support at the recent Mark Seymour Bridge concert in Sydney was exceptional. This was great to hear - good work Sydney (this coming from a Brisbane-ite is rare ;P ). Click here for a fan review of the night from Miriam Norman.
10 December 2001 - Mark Seymour Basement CD/DVD Sound Samples So... interested in the Mark Seymour CD/DVD but not quite sure what you would be getting yourself in for? Well here are five 25-30 second mp3 samples to sway your opinion. REMEMBER to RIGHT CLICK and SAVE LINK AS (or SAVE AS depending on your browser):
Please refer to this page for more information on the CD/DVD. I personally had some difficulty deciding what tracks to feature from the CD/DVD! If you are interested in sound samples from other tracks, Stuart can make them on request (it is a fairly quick process).
7 December 2001 - Distribution of Mark Seymour's DVD: Good Work I would like to offer my congratulations to Warner Vision and, in particular, the people behind the distribution of Mark Seymour's "Basement" DVD. The DVD could be found throughout Brisbane on the week of release (in many places on the day of release). For those in the Brisbane (Australia) area, you may be interested to know that JB's Hi-Fi in the city has Mark's DVD (about 7 copies) going for a respectable A$31.50 (or thereabouts). That is a full A$7-$8 off the normal 'recommended retail price'.
28 November 2001 - Upcoming Mark Seymour Gigs Mark Seymour's official site has posted some gig dates:
27 November 2001 - Hunna's in MMM Top 500 Rock Songs Recently (October/November at some stage) the MMM Brisbane radio station had one of those standard 'top 500 rock songs of all time' things where you ring and vote for songs, etc. Hunters and Collectors did respectably out of this, with seven songs making the top 500:
A recent Sydney MMM 500 countdown had eight Hunters and Collectors songs - the seven above and also "Blind Eye". A recent Melbourne 500 MMM countdown had six Hunters and Collectors songs, including "Talking To A Stranger". The latest from Adelaide's MMM had only three songs.
25 November 2001 - Basement Gig on ABC TV Miriam Norman had some great news waiting in my e-mail today: "ABC-TV is broadcasting a 10 part live music programme of Basement gigs. The "Live at the Basement" series will be hosted by Doug Mulray and the first will feature Mark Seymour on Thursday 29th November at 11pm." This gig has previously been shown on cable TV but this is the first free-to-air viewing. Check out this page for more information from ABC-TV on the one hour program.
20 November 2001 - Overseas Mark Fans: It's All Good! Good news today as it is confirmed that the Mark Seymour Basement/One Eyed Man DVD is to be an ALL REGION DVD. It will still be encoded in PAL (I believe) so American/Canadian stand-alone DVD players only set up for the NTSC video/TV format may still have issues. So if you have a computer DVD player OR a PAL compatible stand-alone DVD player, Mark's DVD will play fine. Courtesy of Michael Roberts, here is the word from Warner Vision: "All the DVDs that we are releasing have an 'ALL REGIONS' code. It was decided that this is the best way to go and it is all o.k. rather than them being restricted in some areas. "
16 November 2001 - Jack Howard Sound Samples! Some good news today! Here are two samples from Jack Howard's forthcoming solo album "Secrets and White Lies". While we do not have any idea when exactly this album will be released, True Believers has been lucky enough to be supplied with two full length (almost) CD quality recordings already. So without further ado, here are a couple of samples! Remember to RIGHT CLICK ON THESE LINKS and SAVE TARGET/LINK AS: Heard You Cry
14 November 2001 - Mark On Rove Live Album Mark Seymour and band performed "Don't You Know Me?" on Rove Live earlier this year. This recording is now to be included on a Rove Live CD album called "...Some Music" as track 11. This album shall be released this coming Monday (19th of November 2001) and will be available in most Australian music stores.
10 November 2001 - Australian Election Day... Mark Supports Labor At the time of writing the Australian Liberal Party is confirmed to have it's third term in office. An article dated the 9th of November 2001 has appeared. It gives details on a promotional CD called "Solid Rock" to be mailed to certain parts of Australia promoting the policies relating to the Australian Music Industry from the Australian Labor Party. The CD was put together under the backing of Michael Gudinski, founder and long running leader of the (formerly great) Mushroom records. It features Hunters and Collectors, Paul Kelly, some lesser known upcoming Australian artists. As to exact tracks, I am unsure at this moment in time (please e-mail me if you know): From the article: Yesterday, Mark Seymour said Labor's policies on music would
provide protection for the local industry.
1 November 2001 - Look Out For Callie Gray Former Hunter and Collectors member Jack Howard has written and produced demo's for Callie Gray, a new young Australian singer. The music is described as "big pop material with Bacharach horn lines". Callie has appeared on a number of Australian television programs, including "The Secret Life Of Us" and "Blue Heelers". At the moment they are looking at record companies, so watch out for this new Australian talent.
23 October 2001 - Mark Seymour "Ballad Of The One Eyed Man" DVD Mark Seymour's official website today informs that the Mark Seymour Live DVD mentioned in previous news will be released on Monday the 19th of November 2001 and titled "The Ballad Of The One Eyed Man". This will be through Warner Vision as anticipated and contain material from the recorded Live At The Basement performance. Earlier news items give a track listing of this performance for those who are particularly keen. Can not wait for this release... There are also three more gigs between Christmas and New Year. Two are near Victoria while the other is in New South Wales area.
22 October 2001 - Mark Seymour On "Cold Live At The Chapel" CD Perhaps this news should have appeared a while ago, but I just realised that Mark Seymour appears on the "Cold Live At The Chapel" CD volume two out in Australia. The tracks that can be found on this CD are "Holy Grail" and "Don't You Know Me?".
14 October 2001 - Jack Howard: New album "Secrets and White Lies" Jack Howard has finished work on his new album to be titled "Secrets and White Lies". No record label is fixed in yet so release is not in the near future. The album is 'bigger and stronger' than his "Lo Stresso Tempo" debut EP and features the following new line-up:
Jack also has some upcoming gigs in the Melbourne area:
If you can catch them, we would be very interested to know how they are.
13 October 2001 - Seymour DVD For November Release! Great news today as Mark Seymour will be releasing his Live At The Basement recording on DVD (the first for a Hunna's related release) hopefully during November 2001. It is to be released through Warner Vision/Basement. It is also planned to release a live CD version on wea (Warner) in January 2002.
7 October 2001 - Mark Seymour On ARIA CD This is actually a few weeks old but that happens. Mark Seymour appears on the "2001 Aria Nominations" 2 CD set with "Don't You Know Me?".
27 September 2001 - Mark Seymour Aria News Reports News of Mark Seymour's win at the pre-ARIA's is circulating around the Internet now. Here are some quotes: From the Killing Heidi Realm: But the most surprised winner was Mark Seymour who received the
silver pyramid in the adult contemporary category for his album One Eyed Man.
It was the first ARIA for the former Hunter & Collectors singer in a career
spanning two decades. "I'm shocked, totally lost for words," Seymour later said. From Mark Seymour's official website, www.markseymour.com.au: Former Hunters & Collectors leader now solo performer Mark Seymour picked the
coveted best Adult Contemporary Album category with his highly acclaimed "One Eyed Man". Mark Seymour's work as a solo singer-songwriter was rightly acknowledged by the best Adult Contemporary Album
award. From Mushroom Records website, www.mushroom.com.au: Congratulations to Mark Seymour for winning the 2001 ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album with One Eyed Man. Just another affirmation that this album truly is an exceptional piece of work!
30 July 2001 - Jack Howard News Jack Howard has finished work on a new album which he hopes to have out by the end of 2001. He has also been regularly gigging at places including the Rosstown in Carnegie, The Elwood RSL and the Commercial in Yarraville. These places are around Melbourne.
