05. Westgate

06. Master of Spin

07. Ghost of Vainglory

14. Hell Broke Free

15. The Slab

(encore break)

16. Tobruk Pin

17. Holy Grail

(encore break)

18. Feel the Lord

19. Throw Your Arms Around Me

Some comments:

The Shark Bar is located in Burleigh, on the Gold Coast, about 1.5 hours drive from central Brisbane.

The Shark Bar was close to a beach and had a 'surfy' vibe.

The venue was at around capacity.

Many dedicated fans in the audience, familiar with the Westgate album.

Very high level of annoying audience chatter. This harmed more subtle songs.

Audience chatter partially compensated by higher volume than usual. My ears were ringing afterwards.

This was the first full length band gig I have been to, and I was impressed by the band.

Highlights included Love is a Heavy Load, Westgate and, almost from surprise value, Feel the Lord.

Massive singalong to Holy Grail and Throw Your Arms Around Me.

Only two songs from Westgate not played (Mississauga and Light on the Hill).

As with many Mark fans, I would have preferred more Mark solo material and less Hunters and Collectors.

Audience more drunk than usual. Boys only a couple of years younger than myself passing less than gracefully into adulthood. Self absorption and aggression. Only luck prevented fights breaking out.

Two encores - it helped that drunk people like chants.

Gossip from Mark is that Liberation Records are interested in a live DVD.

Such a live DVD may possibly be recorded in the Gershwin Room at the Espy in Melbourne.

I'm so excited! I finally took delivery of my new baby the other day and I'm a very proud father!

In other breaking news, keep an ear out for the upcoming Airway Lanes CD and the forthcoming Tim Rogers CD for a royal taste of our happening new brass section - it's a French horn-led recovery, I tells ya.

For a Midnight Oil/H & C double, come down to the Northcote Social Club on Thursday 12th July. Rob Hirst will be there with his band, The Ghostwriters, supported by yours truly and the Brothers. Our horn section may get up and have a blast with Rob's team while we're there.

It's all good news!"

31 March 2007 - Great Western Setlist

Luke has sent us a track listing and comments on Mark's performance today...

"Saw Mark perform as part of the "Day On the Green" at Great Western on Saturday. Another great performance from the great man; he performed with a full band... compared to the other times I have seen him perform, he spoke very little during his performance... The large crowd (700-1000) were right into Marks performance, especially the Hunters songs, but also Westgate and Shoulder To Cry On which both were highlights for me... El Dorado and Love Is A Heavy Load ... were good songs and if they are indicative of the "Westgate" album then it will be a great album..."

18 January 2007 - The Great 2007 Hunters Trade (CLOSED)

Friends!

The time has come for a mammoth fan rarities trade. Four DVD's are in the trade. Every Hunters and Collectors and Mark Seymour rarity. Every Hunters and Collectors and Mark Seymour bootleg in existence. Video clips you never knew existed. Yes, you can indeed have it all!

It is important to True Believers that people in on this trade have all commercially available Hunters and Collectors and Mark Seymour albums and videos. This material is not a substitute for that which is commercially available. This trade is for serious fans only.

The trade will operate as a tree. Three initial branches (copies of the DVD's) will be distributed in Australia, Europe and Northern America. Each person is to create two copies, to be send to two people further down the tree. We will try to cater for people without DVD burners by placing them at the end of the tree.

Stuart will be organising this trade. To be involved in the trade, e-mail Stuart at stuart.fenech@gmail.com with (1) your name, (2) your preferred e-mail address, (3) your physical mailing address, and (4) whether or not you have a DVD burner. When you receive your DVD's, contact Stuart so that he can provide you with two names and addresses for the people to which you are to send your DVD copies.

23 December 2006 - Season's Greetings

20 February 2006 - Mark Seymour's Plans for 2006

Mark has posted his extensive plans for 2006 on his Internet site:

2006 is shaping up to be Mark Seymour’s busiest year. He is currently writing for his next studio recording under the working title of “The Year of the Dog”. Recording will start this month and he will be working with his brother Nick on bass guitar.

Simultaneously there is a theatre production in rehearsal entitled “We built this City” which celebrates the history of union labour in Victoria and the 150th anniversary of the Eight Hour Day. There will be a concert and multimedia display at Scienceworks in Newport from April 26 through to May 6 in which Mark will perform songs specifically written to document trade union history. Mark will be accompanied by the “Human Tide”, a thirteen-piece band made up of workers from a broad variety of industries throughout Melbourne.

One song of particular note will be “Westgate” which tells the story of one man’s ordeal who survived the collapse of the Westgate Bridge in 1972. Some of the songs in this project have been written in collaboration with Adelaide poet Geoffrey Goodfellow and at least two of them will appear on Mark’s next recording.

Over the last two years Mark has ventured into soundtrack music in close association with guitarist/producer Cameron Mackenzie. Last year the Telemovie “Through My Eyes” went to air in September. It was a comprehensive re-telling of the Lindy Chamberlain story over two ninety-minute episodes and featured 118 separate pieces of music. Mark’s voice appeared in songs such as “Salem”, “Flower in the Dark” and “Kapunya.” Two new film ventures are planned for 2006.

Due to the success of “Daytime and the Dark”, 2005 was Mark’s biggest year since the retirement of Hunters and Collectors. Plans are underway to release this recording in Canada around May and Mark will be touring there in the latter half of 2006.

Stay tuned for tour dates towards the end of the year as well. In the mean time Mark will make occasional appearances at various clubs around Australia in an informal capacity so he can knock some of his new material into shape. A small solo acoustic residency is planned for a bar somewhere in Melbourne in the not too distant future.

Look out for two new “Rants” which will hit Mark’s web site this week.

19 February 2006 - The Living End

The full Hunters and Collectors horn section can be found on the new album "State of Emergency" by Australian band The Living End. Check out the tracks "Black Cat" and, particularly, "One Step Behind". The horns may even be touring with The Living End in May...

23 January 2006 - Jack Howard Recording Plans

Former Hunters and Collectors trumpet player Jack Howard has some big plans for 2006. Jack plans to first record an acoustic CD with John Berto (part time "Long Lost Brother") on guitar. This album will include some originals, some stripped back versions of older Jack songs, and a couple of covers. Jack is also planning to start work on a a new "Long Lost Brothers" album to follow 2004's "Let's Fall In Love".

Jack Howard's Internet site (www.jack-howard.com) also now offers a lot of music for downloading. Songs available through Jack's site include unreleased tracks and now hard to find tracks from his excellent 2002 "Secrets and White Lies" album.

21 January 2006 - Horns of Contempt Appearances

Jack Howard and fellow former Hunters brass band mates Jeremy Smith and Michael Waters, have been working together recently. Below is a list of the latest appearances of the members from the Hunters' 'horns of contempt':

An upcoming album by Australian band The Living End will feature the full Hunter's horn section.

Jack Howard has been playing with Australian musician Pete Murray, including at the Falls Festival in Lorne and at The Forum in Melbourne. Michael Waters and Jack Howard both played with Pete Murray for "Live At The Chapel".

24 December 2005 - Season's Greetings

True Believers wishes everybody out there the best of joy through the Christmas and New Year period. We hope that you enjoy this opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family.

Either way, we hope to keep you up to date.

23 September 2005 - Barry Palmer Television Show

Fan Luke spotted this news in last weeks Herald-Sun:

"New ABC television series 'The Hit Game' is a fascinating insight into the music industry and a must see for budding musicians. The four part series, which starts on September 27 at 8pm, follows a year in the life of independent record producer Barry Palmer, who spent many years on the road playing in Hunters and Collectors. The affable Palmer works with several young acts in the show, all of whom are determined to make the big time. A highlight comes when Palmer hooks up with the Wolfgramm Sisters, a female trio of Pacific Island heritage. After working on several demo songs with Palmer and putting on a showcase gig, the girls are being chased by record companies. The series makes for fascinating viewing."
