Two of Australia's most loved '80s bands, Hunters & Collectors and Noiseworks, will re-form for Sydney's big V8 festival, the Telstra 500 in December.

The offer to perform in front of more than 40,000 motor-racing fans, along with John Farnham and James Reyne, proved an offer too good to refuse for the two acts, which have knocked back dozens of lucrative previous offers to play again.

Hunters & Collectors have only played once since they split acrimoniously in 1998 - reuniting on that occasion for the Sound Relief benefit concert in Melbourne in 2009.

"After performing a benefit concert for victims of the Victorian bushfires in 2009, Hunters & Collectors realised they could still cut it on the big stage. The MCG, 80,000 people. Could it get any bigger?" frontman Mark Seymour asked. "Maybe. Jump to 2011. V8s. ANZ Stadium ... Bring it on!"

The reunion of Noiseworks will also be a shock to their loyal fans as frontman Jon Stevens has only just signed a new solo record deal with Universal.

As the sold-out signs go up on John Farnham's Whispering Jack 25th anniversary tour, his spot on December 3 is expected to prove a huge draw for the Rock And Race. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.
