TWO of Australia's home-grown musical greats were in Ballarat yesterday to promote their latest albums.

Former Hunters and Collectors and Australian Crawl lead singers Mark Seymour and James Reyne are on a national tour to publicise the release of their much anticipated solo recordings.

Seymour's Embedded is his first album in three and a half years, and follows the release of the single 43 in the shade in March.

Seymour said Embedded is different to his previous work.

"My life attitudes have shifted a lot," Seymour said.

"It's a very simple and direct album, with a strong country influence.

"The songs are about suburban life in Australia as I see it, and the characters I meet on the street," he said.

Reyne, on the other hand, described Speedboats For Breakfast, as a "big, fat rock record".

As his first album in three years, Reyne said fans should enjoy the new offering.

"It's the next step in a journey," he said.

Reyne was reluctant to pinpoint the meaning of the album, and said audiences should interpret it as they wish.

"Whatever it means to you, the listener, is what it means.

"Just take it home, play it loud and enjoy it," he said.

Reyne released the album's first single, "Bug" in March.

Both albums will be on sale on April 19.
